Mucho Soul began back in 2001 as a monthly club night in Soho, London. The brainchild of long time muso’s & record collectors Alan Kenny Arscott (DJ A.K.A) and Ket Shah. Mucho Soul initially set out to encompass all manner of audio delights with the emphasis on Soul, playing to a discerning and appreciative Saturday night crowd. Their soulful concept soon developed to include a more varied and eclectic selection of black influenced dance music from Jazz, Disco, Reggae, Funk, and House through to the very best in Nu Electronica.Following those early heady days at the turn of the
new millennium, Mucho Soul went on to appear and guest at various high profile events throughout the noughties including the Inspiracion Festival Tenerife alongside Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby and Simbad, The Sunsplash Festival Turkey with Norman Jay, Phil Asher and Jamie Liddell and The Southport Weekender 50th Anniversary with Chaka Khan, Archie Bell & The Drells, Carl Cox and Kerri Chandler. In more recent years Mucho Soul have been regular guests at the Deep Into Soul Terrace Parties alongside guests including DJ Spinna, Paul Trouble Anderson and Rhemi as well as underground Native Soul Parties with Deep House heroes Osunlade, Culoe De Song, Rocco and Grant Nelson. In 2014 Ket and Alan also curated and promoted a series of “Soul On The South Bank” Summer specials which featured live performances from Saxophonist Nathan Haines & his band, Vocalist Vanessa Freeman and Anglo-Brazilian collective DaLata alongside guest DJ sets from DJ Soulprovyder, Dr Bob Jones and Patrick Forge.
2015-16 was a particularly big period for Mucho Soul as they took their sound to the big Latitude 10th Anniversary Festival where they curated the ‘In The Woods’ Stage for two years running featuring Ashley Beedle, Jo Wallace, Simon Kurrage and The Size Doesn’t Matter Crew, Stuart Patterson, Dean Thatcher and Richio Suzuki. They also graced the Beach Stage for the first time at The Southern Soul Festival in Montengro alongside Ron
Trent, Gilles Peterson, Jarrod Lawson and Matthew Halsall and returned the following year in 2016.
This past four years have seen Mucho Soul develop a monthly Sunday Supplement residency in Blackheath and a series of Summer Soul On The Canal Side sessions at Grow in Hackney as well as regular guest spots across London town. In addition to the many regular live DJ appearances Alan & Ket also present their popular Mucho Soul
