Áskell (Housekell) has been a pivotal figure in Reykjavik’s house music scene since 2009, earning recognition for his distinctive style, characterized by raw, underground house and garage music—an uncommon sound in the city’s DJ circuit.

 

While studying classical music at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Áskell spent his nights filling dance floors in gritty local clubs, a fusion that shaped his unique sound, which is most evident in his own productions. He holds residencies at Kaffibarinn and several other local venues and has performed at numerous festivals both in Iceland and internationally, like Sónar Reykjavík and Iceland Airwaves. 

 

Áskell co-founded the label BORG LTD, which was active from 2014 to 2019 and saw several international vinyl releases. His time with Triphouse Rotterdam while living in the Netherlands further refined his raw sound and DJ skills. Áskell’s music has been released on respected labels such as Lagaffe Tales and Hustler Trax, and he has also composed music for the Iceland Dance Company and other performing dance art projects.
